Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization 2009
Improve child nutrition programs and work toward ending childhood hunger!

The Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act of  2009 provides an opportunity to make significant   improvements to school meals, summer meals, meals served at after-school and day care programs, and WIC. End Hunger CT! has led and participated in activities that reach out to our Connecticut delegation asking them to speak up to end childhood hunger in Connecticut.

Activities include:
-Testifying before Congress
-Organizing Child Nutrition Listening Sessions in Districts #3 (DeLauro) and #2 (Courtney)
-Leading a Child Nutrition Webinar in collaboration with the Connecticut Association for Human Services(CAHS)

End Hunger CT! and other hunger advocates are asking for improvements to child nutrition programs through the Child Nutrition Reauthorization Act. Our goal is to make changes through the Act so that child nutrition programs will reach more hungry children, providing them with more nutritious foods. The foundation for these changes can be found in the National Child Nutrition Forum's Statement of Principles for Child Nutrition Reauthorization, which calls on the Administration and Congress to enact a reauthorization bill that:

  •  assures and strengthens program access and supports participation by underserved children and communities.
  • enhances nutrition quality and provides adequate meal reimbursements.
  • modernizes technology and simplifies program administration and operation.
