WHAT: Senator Murphy will co-host a press conference with End Hunger Connecticut! (EHC!) to highlight the CT Summer Meals program at a Hartford, CT meal site during breakfast serving hours. Following the press conference, the Senator will take time to tour the summer meals site and interact with children as they receive their no-cost breakfast.

WHY: When schools are closed, millions of children in low-income households across the country lose access to the school meals provided through the National School Lunch Program. Summer Meals Programs help fill this gap by providing free meals and snacks to children who might otherwise go hungry. The CT Summer Meals program is federally funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and administered by the Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE). The program provides children and teens 18 and-under – as well as individuals with disabilities under 21 enrolled in an eligible state education program – with nutritious meals no questions asked, at absolutely no cost to families, each and every summer. End Hunger Connecticut! is a proud formal partner of CSDE and Connecticut Foodshare in promoting the CT Summer Meals program to ensure all CT families know about this vital resource.

WHEN: Friday, July 28th, 2023 @ 9:00am

Speaking portion runs from 9:00am-9:40am, followed by a tour of the summer meals site. Families of children who will be onsite have already signed media release waivers for their children with the exception of a few children, which will be communicated to media once onsite.
