WHAT: End Hunger Connecticut! (EHC!) will be joined by Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz to visit Verplanck Elementary School, a CT Summer Meals site, during their lunch time. UConn’s Put Local on Your Tray will be in attendance with offerings of fresh, locally grown produce for children to taste-test. Representatives from the Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE), Connecticut Foodshare, and other confirmed legislators and key program partners will also be in attendance to tour the meal site and participate in farm-to-school related activities hosted by the Connecticut Farm to School Collaborative. While there will not be a speaking portion, representatives will be open to interviews and media is encouraged to attend to help promote the program. At this time, children at the site are only approved for back-of-head photos and video unless a parent happens to be present onsite to express media consent for their child(ren).

About CT Summer Meals

The CT Summer Meals Program is federally funded by the USDA and state-administered by the Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE). The program provides free, nutritious meals to kids during summer break. Summer Meals meet federal nutrition guidelines and are composed of milk, fruits, vegetables, grains, and meat or another protein. Summer Meals are offered at hundreds of sites around the state from June to late August, serving combinations of breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. Meals are free to any child age 18-and-under, no questions asked. For additional information visit www.ctsummermeals.org.
